Program Delivery
All Programs are face to face interactive classroom contact residential programmes. The programmes are conducted at one of our Training Academies (TAs)/ Training Centres (TCs).
Academic as well as practical training is given to all the learners at SSCI Approved Training Academies / Training Centers during the course of study. The relevant reference materials and notes for the use of teaching/learning process will be made available to learners.
The learning package also includes a number of Audio and Video programmes, for students. The learners can also participate in live AV sessions on Gyan Darshan Channel and Interactive Radio Counseling on Gyan Vani conducted through the Electronic Media Production Centre (EMPC) studios of IGNOU (Proposed to be organized by SSCI, subject to availability to slots from the EMPC, IGNOU).
The faculty comprises eminent academicians and well-known professionals from the relevant industry with long experience. In addition to the classroom lectures, there are industrial visits and guest lecture series, where they meet with industry experts & professionals, who have defined & redefined the limits of triumph in security field. Students are given opportunities to interact & possibly work along with them, the modalities and nuances of the industry.
Learning material is specially prepared by teams of experts drawn from professionals
in the field of education and in the field of Security & Allied Services as well
as in-house faculty. These materials are scrutinized by the content experts, supervised
by the faculties/unit designers and edited by the language experts before they are
finally sent for printing. Similarly, video films are produced in consultation with
the course writers, faculties and producers. The material is previewed and reviewed
by the faculty as well as experts and edited/modified, whenever necessary, before
they are finally presented for training.
While IGNOU primarily offers distance learning programs, the nature of the Security programs is such that a face to face instruction mode becomes imperative.
More than 20,000 candidates have already been trained and certified since SSCI went operational in July 2008
IGNOU Credit System and Modularity in Distance Learning Format
The University follows the Credit System whereby each course and program has a specified number of credits. Each Credit involves 30 hours of study time of the learners. The learners can accumulate credits as per their convenience. The University has also adopted the modular approach to course content, which helps the learners in progressing gradually through small modules, towards higher levels of learning. The combination of modules leads to Certificate, Diploma and Degree Programs in a specific area of study.
In IGNOU the Non Credit Programs are of duration below 6 months and there is no credit system. The programs of duration more than 6 months are all Credit Based Programs and the programs are all Diploma and Certificate programs. The students are awarded Certificates or Diplomas by the University on successful completion of these courses. The Certificates and Diplomas awarded by IGNOU are recognized by all the members of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and are at par with Degrees/Diplomas/Certificates of all Indian Universities/Deemed Universities/Institutes {vide UGC Circular No. F1-52/2000 (CPP-II) dated 5 May, 2004 abd AIU Circular No. EV/B (AA9/9A176915-177115 dated 14 January, 1994}.
Special Features
While the University follows the distance learning methodology of imparting training and education like SLM, Teleconferencing, Video Conferencing, Assignments, ‘Gyan Kosh’, the nature of these specific courses necessitates a face to face training model. Any meaningful training regimen in the disciplines of Safety and Security involves a significant amount of physical training, demonstration, instructor’s personal advice and experiential exercises and most importantly, role-play or physical trials and simulations followed by feedback and approach-correction. of the course, This is what ensures that at the end of the Training Program, what will emerge is a batch of regimented, disciplined and trained professionals who are capable of responding to any situation arising in their domain – Safety and Security, and prove to be an asset to their organization.
The SIS Group has more than 35 years of experience in imparting Security and Safety Training to all levels in the Guard Force, in a residential model. Appreciating the necessity and the benefits of the residential model, IGNOU-SSCI launched the Safety and Security Qualifications to be conducted in a residential model.
